The value of comparing pupils' views with those of their parrents

Learning the views of both current and recent pupils is becoming increasingly valuable to a school. In SMP’s experience it seems that the child’s own opinion is one of the most significant factors both in the initial choice of school and – even more importantly – in the stay/leave decision post GCSE. Satisfied pupils who feel their views are valued by the school are more likely to continue through into the Sixth Form and are more likely to recommend the school to others.

Pupil research is usually undertaken simultaneously with Parent Research in order to provide a fuller picture. Senior pupils can provide cogent and informative responses and, as many of the questions will be common to the Parent Survey, useful and informative comparisons can easily be made. Responding anonymously to an external organisation gives pupils the opportunity to give confidently their honest opinions which can in turn be very valuable to a school in helping to inform its future development plans.
